Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Watertown and raised in Loretto, Minnesota. My five siblings and I grew up on a small hobby farm where we had loads of pets and many great adventures. I am currently living with my own family in Winsted, Minnesota. Included in this bunch are my husband, Kevin, and four children - Anna, William, Grace and Lillian. With them, the adventures continue!
What schools did you attend?
I attended Saints Peter and Paul through eighth grade and finished at Rockford High School. I continued my education at the College of St. Benedict, where I earned my degree in Elementary Education.
Where were you previously employed?
My first teaching experience was at Saints Peter and Paul. While there my family began to grow and I took some time off to raise my children. When my youngest child started first grade I went back to school as well. The last three years I have been at Holy Family, a small Catholic School in Silver Lake.
What brought you to St. Peter's School?
Before returning full time to teaching I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to sub at St. Peters. I loved the positive energy and Catholic Spirit present here. When my previous school closed this spring, I was thrilled to find out about the opening at St. Peter's. I feel very blessed to be part of this special community.
What do you enjoy most about your career?
I enjoy working with young people. It is always so refreshing to see new thoughts and ideas discovered. My favorite kind of day is filled with looks of understanding as a child realizes a new concept fits in with information that they already know and the world makes sense. I truly enjoy that moment of enlightenment most of all.
What are your favorite hobbies/pastimes?
I enjoy spending time with my family, running and reading books with my friends, and quilting.
What is your secret for working with children on a daily basis?
I try to model our greatest teacher, Jesus, throughout the day by treating each child with respect and understanding. My experiences in the classroom have led me to believe that young people want to do well in school and thrive under challenges put forward with lots of encouragement.
