Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Winfield, Illinois, and raised in Wheaton, Illinois. Wheaton is a suburb of Chicago. I am the youngest of four children. We moved to Buffalo in August of 1998.
What schools did you attend?
I attended Whittier Elementary, Edison Junior High and Wheaton Central High School. My religious education was at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Wheaton, Illinois. I earned my B.S. degree in Elementary Education at Eastern Illinois University. I plan to begin working on my Masters in Education in the near future.
Where were you previously employed?
Prior to having my own children, I taught first grade for four years at St. Mary of Gostyn School in Downers Grove, Illinois. Since then, I have spent several years as a home daycare provider as well as a daycare director. These have both given me the opportunity to continue working with children and the privilege of being with my own children.
What brought you to St. Peter’s School?
I truly believe that God sent me searching for a school in which I could make a difference, and my journey ended at St. Peter’s. In my heart I knew that this is where I belong.
What do you enjoy most about your career?
I enjoy the awesome responsibility of sharing knowledge with my students and instilling a positive attitude for lifelong learning. Working with children of all ages fascinates me. They are each unique individuals, with many gifts to offer. Being in a Catholic school, I feel fortunate to work with students who are receptive to Christ being our central focus on a daily basis.
What are your favorite hobbies/pastimes?
I enjoy swimming and scrapbooking, but most of all, spending time with my family.
What is your “secret” for working with children on a daily basis?
Being a teacher has been a lifelong dream for me. I feel my “secret” comes from my heart and carries to my students through mutual respect and my love of teaching. I also feel listening and making each student feel that he or she is important promotes trust, which enhances the entire learning environment.
