Where were you born and raised?
I was born at Burnett County General Hospital in Grantsburg, Wisconsin. I was raised in Siren, Wisconsin, where my parents still live today.
What schools did you attend?
I went to Siren Consolidated Schools where I started kindergarten with the same kids I graduated with from high school. At that time our class of 49 students was one of the largest classes to graduate from Siren. After high school, I attended a variety of schools and finished with a diploma in Business Management from Minnesota School of Business and then a B.S. in Business Administration from National American University. I went back to school later in life to earn a second (third?) major in Elementary Education at the College of St. Catherine.
Where were you previously employed?
Besides being a substitute teacher at a number of schools, I am a retiree from Target Stores, Inc. During my employment at Target, I held many positions at many locations, including a few years at the corporate headquarters in downtown Minneapolis.
What brought you to St. Peter’s School?
After I finished getting my teacher licensure, the job market for teachers dried up. There were lay-offs and school closings everywhere around the Twin Cities, creating a large number of experienced teachers looking for work. I applied to two schools and the one that called back was St. Peter’s. I was hired at the second interview. I know that I am at St. Peter’s because God wants me to be here.
What do you enjoy most about your career?
I love teaching sixth graders. They are young adults eager to discover what life will bring them. I enjoy preparing them for the next step of the journey: middle school.
What are your favorite hobbies/pastimes?
I am the mother of two teenagers and spend most of my time driving and waiting at karate, band activities, play practices, etc. While waiting, I catch up on my reading. I love to read.
What is your “secret” for working with children on a daily basis?
I don’t think that I have a “secret.” I just really enjoy coming to school every day and helping these students be the very best St. Peter’s graduates that they can be.
