Where were you born and raised?
I was born and raised in Virginia, MN, a small town of about 9,000 people. It is the "Queen City" of the beautiful Iron Range. It's claim to fame: Home of the Largest Floating Loon!
Which schools did you attend?
I graduated from Virginia High School, where I participated in basketball, softball, yearbook, concert, marching and jazz band, and rifle corp - twirling, not shooting. I then attended Mesabi Community College, also located in Virginia, MN. I went on to get my BS in Elementary Education from Bemidji State University. Later, I received my Masters in Educational Leadership from Southwest MN State University. During the summer of 2006, I completed my K-12 Principal's Licensure through St. Mary's University.
Where were you previously employed?
I have 11 years of teaching experience from the Mt. Iron-Buhl School District. At Merritt Elementary, I taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, a 3rd/4th grade combination classroom, 4th grade, and a 4th/5th grade combination classroom.
What brought you to St. Peter’s School?
I truly believe it was God's plan that brought me here.
What do you enjoy most about your career?
The most rewarding part about being a principal will be the opportunities to tap imaginations, to help create new visions and excitement about working with students and communities, building new relationships, and striking out in new directions. I want to create a positive effect on teachers and the learning environment, which will cause a positive ripple-effect to the students - who should ALWAYS remain our focus.
What are your favorite hobbies/pastimes?
Spending time with family and friends, golfing, biking, walking my dogs (2 Boxer puppies - Leo and Madi), spending time at my cabin, traveling, gardening, attending sporting/theater/comedy events, and playing card/board games.
What is your “secret” for working with children on a daily basis?
Remembering what it was like to be on the "student" side of the desk!
